Summer School Week Three: Magic!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Step right up and read all about our fun and mysterious Magic Week!

Every magician needs their own magic wand! With dazzling creativity (and some glue and paint), kids transformed simple pencils into wands that they could use throughout the week. Harry Potter would be proud!

(And he was! Check out our teacher Joe charming everyone in his Harry Potter costume!)

Did you know red cabbage is a magical vegetable? It is! Mix it with different liquids around your house and watch them instantly change color! That’s because the pH of cabbage reacts differently with acids and bases. We made cabbage ice cubes (a pretty purple color, but a little smelly!), and dropped them in glasses of vinegar, baking soda, milk, and lemon juice. Each reaction was different!

Every child likes to play with bubbles in the summer, but take a look at these foggy bubbles, made with dry ice, water, and dish soap. They would look perfect at our Halloween Haunted House!

The kids imagined that if they stared long enough, then they could see the future, like in a crystal ball.

Can you bounce an egg? We learned how! A little vinegar works a lot of magic on raw eggs, and after a few days they bounce like super balls.

Optical illusions and trick art were a big hit! My favorite is the disappearing colors art. Watch how the colors are just wiped away! How did they do that?

Mhmm, all this magic work is making me hungry… Some magicians pull rabbits out of their black top hats, but we filled ours with popcorn instead!

Every day, the kids learned new magic tricks, and at the end of the week, they put on their own magic show! They performed entirely in English, and did a variety of card and magic hat tricks.
Thank you, everyone who participated in our Summer School program! See you next year!
