Summer School 2週目

Summer School 2週目のテーマは「音楽」でした。

1週目から続けて参加している生徒さんは、英語のみの環境にも次第に慣れてきたようです。

Caitlinが英語でSummer Schoolの様子を紹介していきます！

Hi there! Caitlin here with an update on Week 2 of Summer School!

The theme for Summer School Week 2 was music.

Many of the kids can play piano or violin, and they know the names of normal musical instruments. But this week, the kids created their own original instruments!

参加してくれた生徒さんの多くが、ピアノやバイオリンを弾けるようです。そして楽器についてもよく知っていました。

だけど、今週はオリジナルの楽器を作成します。

We watched a video about a children’s orchestra from Paraguay. Because their village is so poor, many children there cannot afford to study music. Instead, their parents and teachers learned how to make recycled instruments from everyday goods and trash.

まず、パラグアイの子どもたちが参加するオーケストラの動画をみんなで見ました。

パラグアイの子どもたちは貧しいので楽器が買えないのですが、不用品などから工夫して楽器を作成しています。

Using straws, hairpins, cups, cardboard, and so on, our students also learned how to make flutes, guitars, and even xylophones!

楽器を作成するところから体験してもらいました。

We also explored the science behind sound waves and experimented with how sound moves. Math is connected to music, too, so after learning about fractions and rhythm, the kids wrote and performed their own beats!

Some of them played their favorite tunes!

また、なぜ楽器から音が出るのか、科学的なアプローチで学びました。

算数も音楽と関係ありますね！

And don’t forget English! So many things, from ticking clocks to ringing phones — even bacon sizzling in a frying pan! — make sounds. We made a small dictionary of common English onomatopoeia.

時計の音や、フライパンで何かを焼くときの音など、英語で音をどのように表現するのか？についても学びました。

だいぶ日本語とは違いますよね。

Now they are on their way to becoming rock stars!

…or maybe joining a Mexican Mariachi band!

実験や、アート、作業を行いながら関連する英語表現を学んでいきました。

これはCLIL（Content and Language Integrated Learning：内容言語統合型学習）と呼ばれ、当スクールでは設立時から取り入れています。

英語を学ぶこと自体を最終的なゴールにするのではなく、色々な知識や楽しいことをする中で身に付けた英語表現は、定着率が高いことも知られています。
