It\u2019s flu season!<\/div>\n

\u30a4\u30f3\u30d5\u30eb\u30a8\u30f3\u30b6\u306e\u5b63\u7bc0\u3067\u3059\u306d\uff01<\/p>\n

Recently, I\u2019ve heard from a lot of students who caught influenza, or the flu. All across Japan and America, the flu is going around, and many schools and offices are empty. The flu is very contagious, which means that it spreads from person to person easily. So, how can we avoid catching it?<\/p>\n

\u8fd1\u9803\u591a\u304f\u306e\u751f\u5f92\u304b\u3089\u30a4\u30f3\u30d5\u30eb\u30a8\u30f3\u30b6\u306b\u7f79\u3063\u305f\u805e\u304d\u307e\u3059\u3002\u65e5\u672c\u5168\u56fd\u3001\u307e\u305f\u30a2\u30e1\u30ea\u30ab\u5168\u571f\u3067\u30a4\u30f3\u30d5\u30eb\u30a8\u30f3\u30b6\u304c\u6d41\u884c\u3057\u3001\u591a\u304f\u306e\u5b66\u6821\u304c\u5b66\u7d1a\u9589\u9396\u306b\u306a\u3063\u305f\u308a\u3001\u4f1a\u793e\u3067\u3082\u4eba\u304c\u3044\u306a\u3044\u72b6\u614b\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3088\u3046\u3067\u3059\u3002\u30a4\u30f3\u30d5\u30eb\u30a8\u30f3\u30b6\u306f\u4f1d\u67d3\u529b\u304c\u5f37\u304f\u3001\u4eba\u304b\u3089\u4eba\u3078\u3059\u3050\u306b\u5e83\u307e\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002\u3069\u3046\u3057\u305f\u3089\u30a4\u30f3\u30d5\u30eb\u30a8\u30f3\u30b6\u3092\u9632\u3052\u308b\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\u304b\u3002<\/p>\n

Last November, I went to the hospital and got a flu shot. It hurt a lot and my skin was itchy for a few days, but now it\u2019s February and I haven\u2019t gotten sick yet! Of course, the flu shot doesn\u2019t always work. Some people get the shot, but they still catch the flu later on! Do you know anyone like that?<\/p>\n

Another thing we often see in Japan is people with white masks over their noses and mouths. I understand people do this to avoid spreading or catching illnesses like a cold or the flu. In America and many other western countries, there is no such custom. Why do you think so?<\/p>\n

\u4ed6\u306b\u65e5\u672c\u3067\u3088\u304f\u898b\u308b\u306e\u306f\u30de\u30b9\u30af\u3067\u3059\u3002\u65e5\u672c\u4eba\u304c\u611f\u67d3\u3092\u5e83\u3081\u306a\u3044\u305f\u3081\u306b\u30de\u30b9\u30af\u3092\u3059\u308b\u4e8b\u306f\u77e5\u3063\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u304c\u3001\u30a2\u30e1\u30ea\u30ab\u3084\u4ed6\u306e\u591a\u304f\u306e\u897f\u6d0b\u8af8\u56fd\u3067\u3053\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306a\u7fd2\u6163\u306f\u3042\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002\u3069\u3046\u3057\u3066\u3060\u3068\u601d\u3044\u307e\u3059\u304b\u3002<\/p>\n

Speaking of masks, I want to talk about two verbs today: put on and wear. Especially in this season, my Japanese friends often tell me, \u201cYou should put on a mask every day!\u201d This is good advice, but not really natural English.<\/p>\n

\u30de\u30b9\u30af\u3068\u8a00\u3048\u3070\u3001put on \u3068 wear\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u304a\u8a71\u3057\u305f\u3044\u3068\u601d\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u3053\u306e\u6642\u671f\u306b\u3001\u65e5\u672c\u4eba\u306e\u53cb\u9039\u304c\u3088\u304f\u300c\u6bce\u65e5\u30de\u30b9\u30af\u3092\u4ed8\u3051\u305f\u307b\u3046\u304c\u3044\u3044\u3088\uff01\u300d\u3068\u8a00\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u3044\u3044\u30a2\u30c9\u30d0\u30a4\u30b9\u3067\u3059\u304c\u3001\u3053\u308c\u306f\u81ea\u7136\u306a\u82f1\u8a9e\u3067\u306f\u3042\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002<\/p>\n

It means to place something on your body.<\/p>\n

We also use wear to talk about our habits and daily life. For example, I always wear slippers in the house. I often wear glasses, and sometimes I wear contact lenses. But I almost never wear a mask!<\/p>\n
